Geometry Honors
HONORS GEOMETRY COURSE SYLLABUS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a two-semester course in the study of Euclidean Geometry, and includes both the language and logic of geometry. The following topics will be covered and practiced: parallelism, concepts regarding triangles including the Pythagorean Theorem, quadrilaterals, similarity, ratios and congruence, concepts regarding circles, and area and volume of solids.

Required Materials:
- pencils (work in pen will be marked down)
- two pocket folder with fasteners for hole punched papers
- a binder with notebook filler paper and graph paper
- 4. Scientific calculator (Please make sure that the calculator says “Scientific” such as the TI-30X or Casio FX-300ES. These retail for $10-$20. A graphing calculator may also be used but is not necessary.)
- ruler, protractor, and compass
- Geometry textbook (provided)
CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE:
- Students are to show respect to all people at all times.
- The following items are not allowed in class: cell phones, MP3 players, food, beverages (except bottled water), and any other items in violation of school policy. NO GUM IS ALLOWED!
- Students are expected to know and obey all school policies.
- Students should have all required materials with them every day.
- The student is expected to be in their seat and ready to learn at the start of class; any student not in their seat will be considered tardy.
Attendance:
If a student is absent they are responsible for finding out what they missed and being prepared for the next day that they attend. That includes having any due homework and being prepared for a test if there is one. No makeup tests will be given for unexcused absences.
Tests:
There will be a test at the completion of each chapter and a final exam at the end of each semester.
Homework:
- All work must be done in pencil.
- The student’s name will be placed in the top right corner of the page.
- All homework should be done in two neat columns, showing all work.
- The problem must be copied down before answering and all answers must be either circled or boxed, include units where appropriate.
- Homework should be done daily and turned in at the end of each chapter in the two-pocket folder.
