Independent Study

Independent Study is where students work on individual classes as needed.  In addition to the class they are taking, the student will be learning study and time management skills.  As part of their academic grade, the student will be keeping up a calendar to help map when their assignments are due.  They will be required to log in daily to Moodle to indicate which subjects they worked on and what specific assignments they accomplished.  In addition, they will print out their Moodle assignments weekly and obtain a parents signature for accountability.

In independent study, students work on individual classes as needed. Besides the class they are taking, they will be learning study and time management skills. As part of their academic grade, they will be keeping up a calendar to help map when things are due. They also will be required to print out their model weekly and get a parent signature. They will be logging in daily, telling what subject they worked on and what specific things they did in that subject.

In order to receive an *A* in this class ALL assignments must be turned in. If you have earned 90 percent but have a missing assignment it will affect the grade and lower the grade to *B*

Conduct is graded by what is done in class and any disciplinary actions given.

Class Room Rules

In independent study, rules will be on an individual basis. I will allow the use of an iPod or be able to have food if it helps the student complete work. If something becomes a distraction to a student or those around them, the privileges will be provoked for that individual student. This should be a place to get work done.

THERE IS NO CELL PHONE USE DURING CLASS. (The only use for a cell phone would be if a student’s music is on it. It needs to be in front of the student; the student or any other student cannot touch it during the class.)  CELL PHONES NEED TO BE IN THE STUDENT’S BACKPACKS or it will be taken and given to the vice-principal.

Come to class on time.

NO GUM on campus.

Disrespect for anyone in the class, including one’s self will be addressed and may warrant a *Parent Communication* (or PC) or a disciplinarian action (da).

Common Courtesy is the minimum behavior.

Work Tardy Policy

It is expected to have work done by the due date. Papers/assignments will be graded down one grade for each week it is late. No assignment will be accepted two weeks after the date. Per absence policy, for every day they are absent, I can give them a day extension for the assignment. If any situations arise, please call me. I will work with you and your student.

Cheating or plagiarism – Just don’t. It is against the school rules and will be an automatic detention or suspension.

Notebooks – Every student will keep up a notebook to be kept in the classroom. This notebook does not leave the classroom. It will hold the weekly moodles signed by the parent, an assignment calendar, grade sheet, conduct sheet, school calendar to write when things are due, daily work logs, and an area for notes.

Communication – If you have any questions or concerns during the year, please feel free to contact me at my FCHS e-mail, nancyfire@foothillsschool.net.
