MATH 1A-Pre-ALGEBRA

Course Description:

This is a two-semester course in the study of Pre-Algebra, which offers basic skills in preparation for Algebra 1. We will learn about variables, integers, solving equations, factors, fractions, exponents, rational numbers and equations, ratio and proportion, probability, percents, linear functions, and area & volume of solids.

Required Materials:

  1. Pencils (no work in pen please)
  2. 1 in. binder w/ pocket
  3. Graph Paper
  4. Calculator (one that can calculate square roots)

Please be prepared by bringing these items to class everyday!

Classroom Rules:

  1. Please respect everyone
  2. Please respect all materials
  3. Please have your materials and be seated by the time the bell rings.
  4. No food or drink is allowed during class with the exception of bottled water.
  5. No gum is allowed on campus.
  6. No cell phone usage is allowed during class, including checking the time. I don’t want to hear or see them!

Work will be assigned Monday through Friday. Some assignments will include moodle. Please be sure to check moodle every Monday and Friday to see if something is assigned on it. We will go over assignments in class. You are responsible to have all your work complete and corrected everyday. If you have a question on a problem, we will go over it in class. If you are absent, you have until the day after you return to get your work to me.

Grades will be determined on a point system:

  1. Homework-10 points (if neatly completed, work shown when possible, and corrected)
  2. Quizzes- vary between 10-20 points
  3. Tests- vary between 50-100 points

Grades will be calculated as a percent of the total points earned.

A      90-100%

B      80-89%

C      70-79%

D      60-69%

F       below 59%
