Required Materials:
- Pencils (I prefer work in pencil but will accept pen)
- Paper (loose leaf or in a notebook)
- Pre-calculus textbook (provided)
- Graphing Calculator (TI-84)
CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE:
- Students are to show respect to all people at all times.
- The following items are not allowed in class: cell phones, MP3 players, food, beverages (except bottled water), and any other items in violation of school policy. NO GUM IS ALLOWED!
- Students are expected to know and obey all school policies.
- The student is expected to be in their seat and ready to learn when the bell rings; any student not in their seat will be considered tardy and sent to retrieve a late slip.
Attendance:
If a student is absent they are responsible for finding out what they missed and being prepared for the next day that they attend. That includes having any due homework and being prepared for a test if there is one. No makeup tests will be given for unexcused absences.
Tests:
There will be a test at the completion of each chapter and a final exam at the end of each semester.
Homework:
- All homework should be done neatly and turned in as a packet on the day of the test.
- The problem must be copied down before answering and all answers must be either circled or boxed, include units where appropriate. SHOW ALL WORK!
- Homework will be graded as a packet and scored out of 50 points.
Quizzes:
There are 2 kinds of quizzes: homework quizzes and skill quizzes. They may or may not be announced.
- Homework quizzes will be directly from homework and the problem will not be read, only the page number and problem number. You will have to find the problem on your homework. Thus homework organization is essential for these quizzes.
- Skill quizzes will test your skills at solving a problem similar to one on the homework or class work. Notes cannot be used on these.
Grading System:
I grade based on the following point system:
| 1st semester | 2nd semester | |
| Weekly Participation (each week worth 10 points) | 160 | 160 |
| Homework packet (worth 50 points each) | 250 (5 packets) | 250 (5 packets) |
| Quizzes (worth 20 points each) | 100 (5 quizzes) | 100(5 quizzes) |
| Tests (worth 100 points each) | 500 (5 tests) | 500(5 tests) |
| Final | 150 | 150 |
| Total | 1160 | 1160 |
This is only an approximate break down of the grade; there may be more or less quizzes.
Letter grades are based on the following scale:
| 97 – 100 | A+ | 73 – 76 | C |
| 93 – 96 | A | 70 -72 | C- |
| 90 – 92 | A- | 67 – 69 | D+ |
| 87 – 89 | B+ | 63 – 66 | D |
| 83 – 86 | B | 60 – 62 | D- |
| 80 – 82 | B- | Below 60 | F |
