Students are welcome to meet with me before or after class to discuss any question or concern. My phone number and email are also available if needed, but students should not rely on these resources the day before an assignment or project is due.

Goals:

To build a strong foundation of the Spanish language and develop skills in Spanish reading, writing, speaking and listening. Specifically developing vocabulary, understanding sentence structure, pronunciation and verb conjugation.

Textbook:

Buen Viaje Textbook AND Workbook

Both of these materials need to be brought to class each day.

Suggested Materials:

Spanish-English dictionary

501 Verb Book

3×5 flashcards for vocabulary

Grading:

Homework 30%

Homework will be assigned everyday. It will typically consist of a worksheet that reinforces concepts learned in class that day. I understand that your schedules are busy and the homework will not be time-demanding, but completion will be necessary to excel in this class.

Participation 10%

Students are expected to participate in class and come ready to learn. Failing to bring books or leaving class to use the restroom can result in losing participation points. Read the attendance policy for further information on participation points.

Test 35%

There will be only 4-5 tests each semester for each chapter we cover in class.  Each student should take diligence to STUDY for these tests, as they will factor greatly into your final grade.

Quizes/Presentations 25%

Quizes will occur almost weekly and are meant to show students where they are or are not grasping a subject and where they should focus study for the tests. Presentations will occur each chapter and are meant to challenge a student to use what they have learned.

Attendance Policy:

Attendance in this class is crucial. Students will be credited 5 participation points for each class attended. Students can make up these points if they are absent by listening to 30 minutes of Spanish radio or watching 30 minutes of Spanish television and then turning in a paragraph summarizing what they watched/heard.
