Parent Letter
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I trust you want to partner with Foothills Christian High School in providing your student an education grounded in the Truth that stems from the Word of God rather than the vain philosophies of men. Further, I trust you want to insure your student desires a purposeful life of service to God and to all of humankind. My personal belief is school, like the church, is to be a training post which trains students to actively engage the communities in which they live TODAY rather than waiting for a vague tomorrow to right the wrongs of the present. Likewise, I believe, the school should be a place of encouragement and accountability for the way we live our lives today. To these ends, I pledge my support of your efforts.
As your son’s or daughter’s teacher, you can rely on me to be prepared for class every day. Your son or daughter should be prepared as well. You know the old adage, “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.” It may take our combined efforts to motivate your student. Certainly, unless we work in concert, we labor in vain. So, as partners in education, your biggest help to me will be to insure your student is actually devoting serious time to his/her studies. It is imperative you take an active interest in his/her work if this experience is to benefit us all and, especially, the kingdom of God. Thus, it is also of the utmost importance we maintain open communications throughout the year.
Please take the time throughout the school year to review your son’s/daughter’s performance online via the school’s web site, www.foothillschristianschool.com. You will have access to your student’s grade for every assignment. This report will be updated every two weeks. You will also find your student’s syllabus at the school’s web site. There you can follow along with every assignment throughout the entire semester. You will also find links there to other helpful information and a way to contact me directly should you have any questions.
On a more personal note, the most important aspect of my life is my relationship to Jesus Christ and the Word of God. Consequently, my chief aim is to please Him. I believe that I have been called to teach, coach, counsel, and exhort others in accordance with His Word. I take this very seriously and try to make it the dominant thread in all I do.
I have been blessed with graduate studies in Government and Economics. I am, therefore, very comfortable teaching these subjects. With regard to United States History, I have an undergraduate degree in that area of study. Additionally, I am continually fascinated with the overwhelming evidence of God’s hand in the establishment of this great nation. I am frequently put to shame by the evident faith and sacrifices of many Americans, great and small, who labored to build this country’s Christian foundation. How and why these Americans established government and economic systems founded on Christian principles is crucial to who we are as a nation and our future.
Unfortunately, our Christian bedrock is under constant attack from the corrosive forces of our sinful human nature. The Roman historian Cicero warned, “Not to know what happened before you were born is to remain forever a child.” It is my earnest desire to assist you in equipping your students with the skills and information to enable them to pass beyond the years of childhood directly into Christian maturity and adulthood. I would not have them led by the blind and deceived by the philosophies and ideologies of their brothers and sisters.
I look forward to this upcoming school year with these goals and purposes in mind. It is always wondrous to see what God has in store for each of us. Let us look with eager expectancy that Our Lord and Savior will work all things out for the good of those who love Him and keep His commandments.
Your Servant in Christ,
Ron Newkirk
