Fourth Grade
A fourth grade day begins with a devotional time, prayer, and worship. Next we have our math hour which consists of instruction and interaction, along with independent completion of problems. Abeka 4 Math builds upon the already –set foundation, and it introduces new concepts including estimation, factorization, multiples, fraction addition, subtraction, and multiplication, metric equivalents, equations, decimals, geometry, etc.
Our Bob Jones University Press language arts program covers all general grammar and usage, but it also integrates creative writing assignments every other chapter. We cover writing letters, compare/contrast essays, personal narratives, book reviews, and much more. The literature text combines character-building stories and comprehension activities, both oral and written. In addition to commonly used words, our spelling program also teaches the correct spelling of each book of the Bible, dictionary usage, and fun activities to complete.
Abeka Discovering Good Health is used for our first trimester of science. We study the skeletal, respiratory, and muscular systems, physical fitness, the skin, and the teeth. The end of the book focuses on our relationship with others and with God. For the last two trimesters, we use School of Tomorrow Paces which cover many different aspects of science.
The Abeka My State Notebook is currently being used at home by parents of 4th graders for our California History requirement. Learning is enriched by a visit as a class to a local educational facility such as Indian Hills, the San Diego Mission, or Pioneer Ways.
